The Sustainable Development Youth Work Forum, of which the National Youth Agency provides the secretariat, is funded by DfES. The forum brings together twenty-five national organisations including government departments. Its work revolves around the promotion and development of young people's involvement in sustainable development and seeks to establish links between SD in a youth work context with citizenship, community cohesion, cultural diversity, regeneration and social inclusion agendas.
Building on an earlier publication, “Louder than Words” (2000), the National Youth Agency published a resource written by Merlynne A Francique called “Working with young people to create a climate of change” (2007). The resource is designed as a practical tool for people who want to be proactive in developing and including a sustainable development focus within youth work programmes.
The National Youth Agency has worked closely with the DEA to compile resources on global youth work. This resulted in the two-year Global Youth Work Project funded by DFID 2004-06. The project aimed to help statutory youth services in England create and implement strategies to incorporate global youth work into their curricula and practice.
